Audi Q2 Throttle Issues Drain Fuel & Affect Starting
Summary of the thread
A 2021 Audi Q2 was experiencing poor starts and increased fuel consumption, suspected to be caused by throttle body issues. The symptoms included irregular air intake and inefficient air-fuel mixture, potentially due to a malfunctioning throttle position sensor. Solutions suggested included a thorough cleaning of the throttle body and, if necessary, replacement of the entire unit. After consulting a certified Audi specialist, the faulty throttle body was confirmed and repaired, resulting in improved throttle response and restored fuel efficiency.

Thank you for sharing this detailed experience. My Q2 had exactly these symptoms, the inconsistent starts and high fuel usage were really concerning. I went ahead and had the throttle cleaning done first, just wondering if you remember the repair costs for your throttle body replacement? Also curious if you have experienced any other issues since the fix? The throttle valve problems you mentioned sound identical to what my mechanic described, and I want to make sure I am budgeting correctly if I need a full replacement.

I had the throttle valve issue completely resolved, and everything has been running smoothly since the repair. The defective accelerator pedal module replacement cost me 205 Euro, which included the diagnostic work and a full throttle cleaning service. The fuel efficiency returned to normal immediately after the fix, and the engine throttle response is now perfect, no more hesitation or rough starts. My throttle position sensors are working correctly, and the control valve operates exactly as it should. Its been 8 months since the repair, and I have not experienced any related issues. The investment was worth it considering how much I was wasting on extra fuel consumption before the fix. If your symptoms match what I experienced, the repair cost is fairly reasonable for resolving these throttle control problems permanently. For peace of mind, make sure they perform a complete diagnostic check of the electronic throttle system when doing the repair, as this helps confirm all components are functioning properly afterward.

Finally got my Q2 fixed last week and wanted to update everyone. After getting recommendations here, I took it to a certified Audi specialist who diagnosed a faulty throttle body, exactly what was suspected. The car throttle response has improved dramatically since the repair. The total cost came to 285 Euro including: Complete throttle body cleaning, Engine idle adjustment, New throttle position sensor, Labor costs The fuel efficiency is back to normal now and those frustrating morning starts are gone. The engine idle is smooth and consistent. My previous mechanic had missed these issues entirely, so I am glad I sought a second opinion. The specialist also showed me the carbon buildup they cleaned out, which explained the poor performance. Really appreciate the advice from this forum, saved me from continuing to waste fuel and potentially causing more engine damage. For anyone facing similar symptoms, definitely get the throttle body checked sooner rather than later.

Had similar symptoms with a 2018 Audi A3 2.0 TFSI. The poor acceleration and increased fuel consumption turned out to be a clogged throttle body causing irregular air intake. The throttle valve was not opening and closing properly, leading to inefficient air-fuel mixture. The control valve needed a thorough cleaning first. When that did not resolve the issue completely, the entire throttle body required replacement. The diagnostic showed the throttle position sensor was malfunctioning, causing erratic idle and hesitation during acceleration. This is a serious issue that affects both fuel efficiency and engine performance. If left untreated, it can lead to further engine complications. The repair involved: Full diagnostic scan, Throttle body removal and inspection, Replacement of the complete unit, ECU adaptation procedure, Test drive to confirm proper operation Suggest getting it checked by an authorized dealer or certified specialist who can properly diagnose the electronic throttle control system. The symptoms match exactly what happens when the throttle body starts failing, especially with relatively low mileage where carbon buildup is not typically the primary concern.
