Avalon engine stall at idle
Summary of the thread
A 2006 Toyota Avalon owner experienced engine stalling at idle and a check engine light, suspecting a fuel tank ventilation system leak. Another person suggested checking the activated charcoal filter, as a defect could cause pressure issues and trigger the check engine light. The owner confirmed the issue was the charcoal filter, which was replaced, resolving the problem.

Thanks! How did you figure out it was the charcoal filter? Did you have any other symptoms besides the check engine light?

Yeah, the stalling at idle was the giveaway for me, plus the fuel tank pressure sensor was going nuts. I recommend taking it to a workshop. They can diagnose the fuel tank ventilation system leak and replace the filter. It’s a common issue.

Appreciate the advice! Turns out it was indeed the charcoal filter. Got it replaced for 275€. Runs like new now!

I had a similar issue with my Avalon. Check your activated charcoal filter; it could be defective. This can cause pressure issues in the fuel tank and trigger the check engine light. It’s also linked to emission control, so give the purge valve a look too.
