Berlingo Brake Light Failure
Summary of the thread
The brake lights on a 2018 Citroen Berlingo stopped working, and an error message appeared on the dashboard. Despite the bulbs being fine, the issue was suspected to be a faulty brake light switch. After checking the connector and finding no improvement, it was advised to replace the switch. The switch was replaced at a shop, resolving the issue quickly and at no cost, confirming the initial suspicion.

Thanks for the quick reply! The error pops up as soon as I start the car, even without touching the brake pedal. I did try wiggling the connector on the switch as you suggested, but no luck unfortunately. Is there a specific way to test the switch itself? I'm not really a mechanic myself but I'm willing to get my hands dirty!

Ah, okay, if it's popping up right away, even without pressing the pedal, and wiggling the connector didn't help, it's most likely a faulty switch. Honestly, it's probably best to just get it replaced. It's a cheap part, but a pain to get to sometimes. I had the exact same symptoms on mine. Bite the bullet and take it to the shop; a mechanic will swap it out in like 10 minutes and they'll know what they're doing. This thing may happen because the sensor is very sensitive.

You were spot on! I took it to the shop this morning, and it was indeed the brake light switch. They replaced it quickly, and the total cost was 0€ because it was such a small issue! The error message is gone, and the brake lights are working perfectly again. Thank you so much for your help; you saved me a lot of unnecessary stress and diagnostic fees!

That sounds frustrating, but don't worry, it's probably not as bad as it seems. I had something similar happen in my Berlingo. Does the error pop up right away, or only when you press the brake pedal? Have you tried wiggling the connector on the brake light switch, under the brake pedal? Sometimes those things just get a bit loose.
