BMW iX3 Transmission Troubles: Jerking & Shifting Problems

Transmission slips/shifts erratically

Hey everyone, need some advice about my 2022 BMW iX3. The car's been showing some concerning symptoms lately: jerking during steady speeds, gearbox not shifting smoothly, AWD issues, and warning lights on the dash. I suspect it might be related to transfer case oil wear, but I'd like to hear from others who've dealt with similar problems. What was the actual cause and how did your workshop fix it? Any insight would be really helpful.

Hey there! I've got some experience with EVs and actually faced something very similar with my 2020 BMW i4 (used to own an iX before that too). I had almost identical symptoms, jerking, rough power delivery, and those annoying warning lights. Took it to my regular workshop where they diagnosed defective gears in the transfer case. Cost me about 330 Euro to fix, but it's been running perfectly since then. Quick question, how many miles/kilometers do you have on your iX3? Also, have you noticed any particular pattern when these symptoms occur, like during acceleration or at specific speeds? This info would help me understand if you're dealing with the same issue I had. My suggestion would be to get it checked ASAP. These symptoms shouldn't be ignored on EVs, especially with the transfer case being crucial for power distribution.

Thanks for sharing your experience! My iX3 has 35369 KM on it, and I just had the latest service done. I've noticed the jerking mostly happens when I'm cruising at steady speeds, not really during acceleration. It's interesting that you had similar issues with your i4. The symptoms you described match mine pretty closely, which makes me think it could indeed be the transfer case. I'll definitely follow your advice and get it checked out quickly, rather be safe than sorry with these kinds of problems. Did your warranty cover any of the repair costs?

Hey again! Thanks for the follow-up about your iX3. Actually, given what you're describing with the jerking at steady speeds, it sounds exactly like what I experienced. My i4 had around 40,000 KM when these issues started popping up. In my case, since my car was still under warranty, BMW covered most of the repair costs. I only had to pay for some additional wear items they found during the inspection. You mentioned you've got a 2022 model, so you should definitely still be under warranty, make sure to take advantage of that! Just a heads up though, when they fixed mine, they also found that the issue had caused some minor wear to related components. Nothing major, but worth keeping in mind. The whole repair took about 3 days, and they gave me a loaner car during that time. Have you noticed any metallic sounds or vibrations through the floor? That was another symptom I forgot to mention earlier. It started subtle but got more noticeable over time before I got it fixed. Keep me posted on what you find out, really curious to know if it's the same issue I had!

Thanks so much for all this detailed info! That's super helpful, especially about the warranty coverage. No, I haven't noticed any metallic sounds yet, but I'll definitely keep an ear out for that. It's actually quite reassuring to hear that your repair was covered under warranty, I'll be sure to mention all these symptoms when I take it in. I've already called my dealer and booked an appointment for next week. They're also offering a loaner car, which is great since I need my car for daily commutes. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. I'll deal with this sooner rather than later, especially now knowing it could affect other components if left unchecked. It's always nerve-wracking when these things happen with a relatively new car, but your feedback has made me feel much better about getting it sorted. I'll come back and update once I know what's actually causing the problem!
