BMW X6 Wiper System Going Haywire, Switch Issue?
Summary of the thread
The 2011 BMW X6 is experiencing erratic wiper behavior, either not working or activating unexpectedly, accompanied by error code 927A. The suspected cause is a faulty wiper switch, but a similar issue in a BMW X5 was resolved by fixing a loose wiring connection near the wiper control module. The solution involved accessing the steering column area and possibly updating the module software. The recommendation is to have a mechanic check the wiring and consider a software update, as these steps resolved the issue in a similar case.

Thanks for sharing your experience! My X6 (162085 KM) shows these exact symptoms regardless of the weather, and yes, I get error code 927A when scanning. Had my last service about 2 months ago but they didn't catch this issue. It's super frustrating, especially when the wipers start running during clear weather, definitely getting some weird looks from other drivers! It's good to know it might just be a wiring issue rather than having to replace the entire module. I'll definitely mention this to my mechanic. Did your wiper speed control still work normally when the issue appeared?

Hey again! Yes, I totally get those weird looks, I got them too with my X5! When I had the issue, the wiper speed control was really unpredictable. Sometimes it would work fine, and other times it wouldn't respond at all to any input. That error code you mentioned (927A) is exactly the same one I got too, which makes me even more confident it's similar to what I experienced. Just to add to my previous reply, I remembered that before getting it fixed, I tried cleaning the connections and checking the fuses myself, but that didn't solve it. The loose wiring was deeper in the system than I could access without proper tools. My car had about 155,000 KM when this happened, so pretty close to your mileage. One thing I didn't mention before, after they fixed the wiring, they also updated some module software as a precautionary measure. Might be worth asking your mechanic about that too. The whole fix has been solid for over a year now, no issues since then. Let me know how it goes when you get it checked out!

Thanks so much for all the detailed info! It's such a relief to hear from someone who's dealt with the exact same problem. That's really interesting about the software update, I had no idea that could be part of the solution. My wipers are doing the same thing with the speed control being super unreliable, so I'm feeling pretty confident now that it's probably the same wiring issue you had. I've actually just booked my car in for next week, and I'll definitely mention both the wiring check and software update to my mechanic. Really hoping it'll be a similar straightforward fix like yours. It's funny how something as simple as wipers can cause so much hassle! I'll skip trying to fix it myself since you mentioned needing special tools, don't want to make things worse. Thanks again for all your help, you've saved me a lot of worry about potentially needing to replace the whole module!

Hey there! I have some experience working on cars and went through something similar with my 2013 BMW X5 last winter. Super annoying when those wipers start acting crazy, right? I took it to my regular workshop and they found it was just a faulty connection in the wiring near the wiper control module. The cable had gotten loose over time, causing those unusual activations and no-response issues. Total repair cost was 95 Euro, mostly labor since they had to take apart some of the steering column area to access and fix the connection. The symptoms in your X6 sound very familiar to what I experienced. Could you share if you're getting any specific error messages on the dash? Also, does this happen more during wet weather or is it completely unusual? This info would help pinpoint if you're dealing with the same issue I had. By the way, I own a 335i too, but thankfully haven't had any wiper issues with that one!
