Boxer oil pressure warning lamp and mechanical noises

I'm having a nightmare with my 2003 Peugeot Boxer, gasoline engine. Only done 32630 km. The oil pressure warning lamp keeps lighting up, and the engine is making some seriously loud mechanical noises. I'm thinking it's the oil pump – could be a defect, right? I did check the oil level, seems fine. No obvious oil leakage either. Anyone else experienced this?

I had similar symptoms with my Boxer. I did have a look at the oil pressure gauge, which was all over the place. Have you already checked your oil change history? Also, are you sure it isn't a faulty sensor?

Cheers for the reply! I did an oil change recently and the oil level seems normal. So you really think it is the oil pump that is broken? Was it expensive to repair?

Given the noises and the warning light, plus your recent oil change, it does sound like oil pump failure is quite likely. I would not drive the car until you have it checked at a workshop. Continuing to drive it will likely destroy the engine.

Thanks a lot! I've taken your advice and got it to a workshop. Turns out it was indeed the oil pump. Cost me 755€ to get it sorted, which is a painful hit to the wallet, but at least the van is running smoothly again. Appreciate the help!
