Camaro rough running exhaust smell
Summary of the thread
A 2016 Chevrolet Camaro is experiencing rough running, a strong exhaust smell, and a check engine light. Possible causes include a faulty oxygen sensor, which can disrupt the exhaust treatment system, or issues with the exhaust system itself. It is advised to have a professional mechanic diagnose the problem, focusing on the oxygen sensor and exhaust system. The issue was resolved by replacing the lambda sensor.

Thanks for the quick reply! Oxygen sensor, huh? Where exactly is that located, and is it something I could potentially check myself, or is it best left to a professional? And if it was the sensor, did you also notice an exhaust leak?

On the Audi, the O2 sensor was near the catalytic converter, but location varies. Unless you're comfortable with car diagnostics, I'd recommend getting it checked professionally. I didn't have a noticeable exhaust leak, so that symptom might point to something else in your case. Get the codes read. Could be a lambda sensor defect. I ended up having a similar exhaust treatment malfunction. Better safe than sorry.

Okay, I appreciate the advice! I'll take it to a mechanic and have them check the oxygen sensor and the rest of the exhaust system. Hopefully, it's just a sensor and not something more serious. The repair cost was 375€ in the end, it was indeed the lambda sensor. Thanks!

Sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my old Audi A4, although it was a diesel. Check engine light, rough running... turned out to be a faulty oxygen sensor. That can mess with the whole exhaust treatment system. Have you considered that? It could also be related to the particulate filter or maybe even the EGR valve.
