Cavalier weak battery sensor
Summary of the thread
A 2021 Chevrolet Cavalier with a gasoline engine is experiencing weak battery performance and dim or flickering lights, leading to suspicion of a faulty battery sensor. Despite normal voltage readings, the sensor might still be defective, potentially sending incorrect data to the car's computer and affecting the charging system. It is advised to have a professional diagnostic check to confirm the issue and consider replacing the sensor if necessary.

Thanks for the response. I did a voltage test, but the readings seemed normal at the time. Could the sensor be defective even if the voltage appears to be within the standard range?

Absolutely! Those sensors can be sneaky. Even if the voltage looks okay sometimes, a faulty sensor can send bad data to the car's computer, which then messes with the charging. The ECU will think the battery is full, while it needs juice. If you're not 100% sure, take it to a workshop for proper battery testing and vehicle diagnostics.

I appreciate the advice. I'll schedule an appointment with a trusted local mechanic for a thorough diagnostic check. The estimated repair cost for the defective battery sensor is about 315€.

Hey! Sounds familiar. I had a similar problem with my old Volvo. Weak starts and the lights were all over the place. Turned out to be the battery sensor throwing codes and messing with the charging system. Have you checked the battery voltage when the engine's running? What readings are you getting?
