I have a 2002 Toyota Celica with a gasoline engine. The anti-theft alarm system is malfunctioning. There's an error stored, and the alarm system is non-functional. Any ideas?

I had a similar issue with my Celica. Check if the alarm system is coded to activate the optical locking (indicators). That was my problem.

Can you elaborate on that? How did you resolve the issue related to the optical locking?

Unfortunately, I did not find a way to resolve it myself. I took it to a workshop and they sorted it out. It seems it requires a software reinstallation or recoding of the alarm system. It's a known issue.

Thanks for the info. Took it to the shop; they recoded the alarm. Turns out that was the problem indeed, and it cost 45€. All sorted now.
