Chevrolet Sail AC Compressor Failure

My 2016 Chevrolet Sail with a gasoline engine (191638 km) has a refrigerant compressor that's stopped working. There's an error code, no cooling, AC won't turn on, and a warning light. Diagnostics point to a bad AC control unit. Has anyone seen this before? What troubleshooting can I do before I spend 980€ on a repair?

Summary of the thread

A 2016 Chevrolet Sail with a gasoline engine experienced a failure in the refrigerant compressor, resulting in no cooling, an AC that won't turn on, and a warning light. Diagnostics indicated a faulty AC control unit as the cause. Before proceeding with an expensive repair, it was suggested to check the wiring harness and connections for issues like voltage drops or bad connectors, which could mimic a control unit failure. Ultimately, a technician confirmed the AC control unit was indeed the problem, necessitating its replacement.

I had a similar issue with my 2018 Opel Astra and a faulty AC compressor. The climate control module was preventing the compressor from engaging. Have you checked the wiring harness and connections to the compressor and control unit? A voltage drop or bad connector can look like a bad control unit.

Thanks. Can you tell me where to look on the wiring harness and connections? Any specific pins or wire colors to check before I replace the AC control unit? I have the tools for electrical testing.

Start with the main power and ground to the compressor clutch. Look for corrosion or damage. Then check the signal wire to the compressor relay – the low-current signal from the AC control module. Use a multimeter to check for voltage when the AC is on. No voltage means a control module problem. Given the error code and symptoms, the control unit is likely the issue. I'd still suggest a workshop visit before replacing it.

Thanks for the advice. I spoke with a technician, and they confirmed the AC control unit is the problem. Replacement was needed, and the cost was about what I expected. Your help was invaluable.
