Chevrolet Sail transmission control unit defective

Experiencing a troubling issue with my 2019 Chevrolet Sail diesel. 122042 km on the clock. The transmission control unit seems defective. Shifting via the paddle shifters is impossible, the gearbox slips and shifts uncleanly, and grinding noises occur during gear changes. Paddle shifters respond very slowly, the gearbox is stuck in emergency mode, and an error code is stored. Could a defective control unit really cause all this?

Summary of the thread

The 2019 Chevrolet Sail is experiencing transmission issues, including unresponsive paddle shifters, gearbox slipping, grinding noises, and being stuck in emergency mode, with an error code stored. These symptoms suggest a defective transmission control unit. A similar issue in another vehicle was resolved by replacing the mechatronics unit, and it is advised to consult a workshop to confirm the diagnosis and prevent further damage.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hey there! Your issue sounds eerily familiar. I had similar transmission problems with my old Opel Astra, though it was the petrol version. Was it showing similar symptoms like gearbox slipping and being stuck in emergency mode? Did you have grinding noises as well?

Indeed, the symptoms you describe align closely with what I'm experiencing, especially the emergency mode and slipping. Can you share a bit more about your particular situation and how you resolved it? Was the root cause indeed the same transmission control unit, and did it give similar error messages?

Precisely. Turns out the mechatronics unit in my Opel was shot. The mechanic confirmed my suspicions after looking at the error codes. I wasn't able to fix the issue myself, so you should probably get yours checked as soon as possible at a workshop to avoid further damage.

Thanks! I appreciate you sharing your experience with your Opel Astra. I will take your advice and consult a reputable workshop. I also suspect it will turn out to be a defective transmission control unit. The technician at the shop confirmed my suspicions and informed me it is indeed the unit. Repair costs should be around 1000€. Thanks again for your help!
