Cold Start Issues with Audi Fuel Injector Revealed
Summary of the thread
The conversation centers on cold start issues with an Audi A1, suspected to be caused by a faulty fuel injector. The initial problem involved rough engine performance and difficulty starting in cold conditions. A diagnostic test confirmed a fuel delivery issue, initially addressed with injector cleaning, which provided only temporary relief. Ultimately, a complete injector replacement was necessary, resolving the problem and improving fuel efficiency. The discussion highlights the importance of proper diagnostics and the potential need for injector replacement to ensure reliable engine performance.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the injector problem. Your symptoms match exactly what I dealt with, those frustrating hard starting issues and rough running after cold starts. Since getting it fixed, my A1 has been running perfectly with no fuel delivery problems. Just wondering, what did the full repair end up costing you? The bill caught me off guard at 850 Euro including parts and labor. Also, have you noticed any other issues popping up since the repair? Sometimes these fuel system problems can be connected to other components.

Really glad your A1 is running smoothly now. The cold start problems were definitely frustrating but getting that faulty injector replaced made all the difference. My repair bill came to 515 Euro total for fixing the defective injection valve, which seems like you got charged quite a bit more than I did. Since having the fuel injection system serviced, the car starts perfectly every time with no rough idle issues. Its been completely trouble-free for the past few months. The fuel system is working as designed now with no connected problems appearing. Most importantly, those annoying multiple start attempts during cold mornings are completely gone. Professional injector cleaning might help in some cases, but when theres an actual faulty injector like we both had, replacement is the only real fix. Getting it done properly by a qualified mechanic was worth every cent to restore proper cold start performance and prevent any cascade of issues through the fuel system.

Finally got my A1 sorted after dealing with those annoying cold start problems. Took it to a local specialist who diagnosed the fuel injection system. The mechanics initial diagnostic test confirmed problems with fuel delivery through one of the injectors. Started with a basic injector cleaning service hoping to save some money, but that only helped for about a week before the hard starting issues came back. Ended up needing a complete injector replacement along with a fuel rail pressure sensor that was also acting up. The final bill hit 850 Euro which was higher than expected, but seeing how smoothly the car runs now makes it worth it. No more rough running during cold starts and the engine fires up perfectly first try every morning. The fuel efficiency has also improved noticeably. Looking back, should have probably skipped the cleaning attempt and gone straight for the replacement given the mileage and symptoms. At least now I know what to watch out for if these cold start problems ever show up again.

Had similar issues with my Audi A3 2016 showing identical symptoms during cold starts. The engine misfire during startup pointed to a faulty fuel injection system. After running an injector test, the diagnosis revealed carbon buildup was blocking proper fuel delivery. Started with professional injector cleaning which provided temporary relief, but the issue returned within weeks. The fuel system inspection showed one injector was completely defective and had damaged the surrounding components from prolonged poor operation. The repair required replacing two fuel injectors and cleaning the entire fuel system to prevent contamination of the new parts. This was a serious repair that needed immediate attention, as faulty injectors can lead to: Further engine damage, Increased fuel consumption, Drop in power, Potential catalytic converter failure The injector cleaning attempt before replacement was worth trying, but in cases of actual injector failure, replacement is unavoidable. Would recommend getting a proper diagnostic test to identify if its truly an injector issue rather than other fuel system components. This type of repair requires specialized equipment and expertise to properly diagnose and fix, especially on modern direct injection engines.
