Epica diesel DPF exhaust pressure issue
Summary of the thread
A 2007 Chevrolet Epica diesel exhibited a warning light, reduced engine power, smoke during acceleration, and a strong exhaust smell. The OBD reader indicated low diesel particulate filter (DPF) exhaust pressure. The issue was identified as a faulty exhaust back pressure sensor, which is crucial for DPF regeneration. Replacing the sensor resolved the problem.

What exactly does DPF regeneration do? And could a faulty sensor really cause all these issues?

DPF regeneration burns off soot accumulated in the filter, preventing blockages. The ECU relies on accurate pressure readings from the exhaust back pressure sensor to initiate this process. A defective sensor can indeed trigger the symptoms you described due to incorrect readings, leading to failed regeneration. I suggest a workshop diagnoses the issue.

Thanks. The workshop confirmed it was the exhaust back pressure sensor. Replaced it for 245€, and all seems fine now.

Low DPF exhaust pressure suggests a faulty exhaust back pressure sensor. This sensor measures the pressure in the exhaust system, which is crucial for proper DPF regeneration. Is the exhaust producing excessive smoke?
