Essentia NOx Catalyst and Exhaust Leak
Summary of the thread
A 2015 Chevrolet Essentia is experiencing a check engine light due to NOx storage catalyst aging and an exhaust leak. The problem is likely related to the emissions system, possibly involving a crack in the exhaust manifold near the catalytic converter. A suggested solution is to have a professional mechanic inspect and potentially replace the manifold to resolve the issue.

Yes, the diagnostic tool indicated an issue with the NOx catalyst efficiency. I don't recall the exact code, but it pointed to the emissions system. What was your experience? Was it a leak, and how extensive was the repair?

Turned out to be a small crack in the exhaust manifold near the catalytic converter. I tried patching it, but it didn't hold. I took it to a workshop. They replaced the manifold, and the problem went away. Save yourself the headache and get it checked by a professional.

I appreciate the input. Based on your experience, I'll schedule an appointment with a trusted mechanic. The repair cost me 265€, including parts and labor. Hopefully, a similar repair will resolve my issue. Thanks again.

I have a similar Chevy Essentia, though newer. I had a similar check engine light and exhaust smell. Did you get any specific error codes related to air quality or nitrogen oxides when you scanned it?
