Evanda Rear Defroster Issue

Rear window heating on my 2004 Chevrolet Evanda (gasoline engine) has stopped working. I'm getting an error stored, and the windshield heating isn't performing as it should either. It seems the likely culprit is a heavily discharged or defective battery. Anyone else experienced this with their Evanda's rear defroster? Any tips on diagnosing the heating coil before I start tearing things apart?

Summary of the thread

The rear defroster on a 2004 Chevrolet Evanda stopped working, with an error stored and windshield heating issues. The likely cause was identified as a heavily discharged or defective battery. Suggestions included checking the fuses and measuring the battery before considering a workshop visit. Ultimately, the problem was resolved by replacing the defective battery, costing 290€.

I had a similar issue on my Chevrolet. Is the auto defrost light flashing or staying on solid? When my thermal window stopped working, it turned out to be a fuse. Have you checked all the relevant fuses for the rear defroster circuit? It's a cheap and easy thing to rule out before diving deeper. My symptoms were similar – rear window heating not doing its job.

Good shout on the fuses, I’ll double-check those! But if the fuses are fine, what was the exact problem with your rear defroster? Any more info would be helpful, because I don't want to pay 290€ at the workshop

Checking the fuses was the first thing I did, but the problem persisted. Since there was an error in the error memory, I didn't have equipment to measure correctly the electrical current in the different parts, and I had no option but going to the workshop. I know it's not ideal and costs money, but that was the only way I could solve this. But first check the fuses and measure the battery before anything else. I'm pretty sure that's the problem.

Thanks for the help and confirming my worries. It does indeed point to a workshop visit. I was hoping to avoid it, but it seems like the best course of action. The defective battery was the culprit. Had to shell out 290€ for a replacement and diagnostic. Appreciate your help, though!
