Focus Engine Stalling
Summary of the thread
A 2004 Ford Focus with a diesel engine was experiencing stalling at idle and a check engine light, suspected to be due to a tank ventilation valve malfunction. Clogged hoses were identified as a potential cause of these symptoms. After consulting with others who had similar issues, it was suggested to check the gas cap, EVAP system pressure sensor, and purge valve. Ultimately, a mechanic confirmed that clogged hoses were the issue, and after repair, the car ran smoothly again.

Thanks for the ideas! I'll check the gas cap first. But how would a faulty pressure sensor affect the idle? Is that common with the tank ventilation system?

Yeah, the pressure sensor can mess with the fuel mixture if it's not reading the tank pressure right. Honestly, though, I ended up taking mine to a workshop, they found a crack in one of the ventilation hoses.

Thanks for the tip! I took it to a mechanic, and you were right – the hoses were clogged. The repair cost 175€. Runs like new now!

Hey, I had something similar happen with my Focus. Did you check the gas cap or the EVAP system pressure sensor? It could also be a faulty purge valve.
