G Klasse oil pressure warning
Summary of the thread
A 2001 Mercedes G Klasse with a gasoline engine developed an oil pressure warning issue at 197010 km. The suspected cause was oil contamination due to exceeding the maintenance interval. Possible causes discussed included oil sludge buildup, oil leaks, and degraded engine oil. The solution involved changing the oil and filter, which resolved the issue.

Thanks for the quick reply. Regarding the oil leak, where are the most common places to check on this engine?

Certainly. On the gasoline engine G Klasse, pay close attention to the valve cover gaskets, the front crankshaft seal, and the oil pan gasket. These areas are particularly susceptible to leaks over time. Furthermore, examine the oil filter housing for any signs of leakage. While the maintenance interval being exceeded is a strong possibility, it is prudent to verify these potential sources of oil leak to ensure a comprehensive diagnostic approach. I would advise you to take your vehicle to a qualified workshop for a detailed inspection. They will be able to accurately diagnose the root cause.

Appreciate the detailed guidance. Took it to the shop, and you were right. It was indeed the maintenance interval exceeded. New oil and filter change sorted it. Cost me 165€! Thanks!

I've experienced similar issues with my G Klasse. The oil sludge buildup can be quite problematic. Have you checked the oil filter for excessive debris? Also, inspect for any potential oil leak around the engine block and oil pan. Oil contamination can stem from various sources, including degraded engine oil, coolant leaks (though less common), and even fuel dilution. A comprehensive inspection is recommended to pinpoint the exact cause.
