The electronic steering issue turned out to be similar to what others mentioned, a faulty wiring connection in the steering column assembly. Found a certified shop specializing in electronic steering systems. The diagnostic scan revealed corroded connectors affecting the electric adjustment mechanism. Total repair came to 780€ including parts and labor. More expensive than expected but they did a thorough job replacing the damaged wiring harness and recalibrating the whole system. The steering adjustment now works perfectly again. While the repair cost was significant, at least I know its been properly fixed by qualified techs this time. Much better than the subpar work from my previous mechanic that likely contributed to the mechanical fault in the first place.
