GrandlandX Automatic Transmission Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2021 Vauxhall Grandland X Hybrid is experiencing issues with its automatic transmission, including strange shifting and activation of the transmission light, sometimes entering emergency mode. The problem may be linked to old or degraded transmission fluid, which can cause implausible shifting behavior. It is suggested to conduct a diagnostic check to read error codes and determine the exact issue, which could range from needing a fluid change to more extensive repairs.

Thanks. Are you saying a transmission flush might fix it, or is the transmission damaged and needs more work?

A flush might help, but with that mileage and those symptoms, I wouldn't do that right away. A flush could loosen debris that isn't causing problems now, and that debris could block valves or other parts inside the transmission. Since the transmission light is on and the car is going into emergency mode, get a diagnostic check by a technician. They can read the error codes and find the problem. Then they can decide what to do, from a fluid change to a bigger repair or replacement. In my case, the diagnostic check showed the transmission oil was bad. After replacing the oil, the issues disappeared immediately. I recommend a similar approach for you.

Thanks for the advice. I'll schedule a diagnostic check. The final repair cost was 240€. Thanks again.

That's concerning. I had a similar issue with my Grandland X, though not the hybrid. Your symptoms sound like what I experienced when my automatic transmission fluid was getting old. The 'implausible shifting behavior' is a key sign. Has the transmission fluid ever been changed? Automatic transmissions need clean fluid to work well. Over time, the fluid breaks down and can't lubricate or provide enough pressure for smooth shifting. This can cause the issues you're seeing, including emergency mode.
