Groove transmission oil temperature sensor issue

Having trouble with my 2023 Chevrolet Groove with a gasoline engine. It's got about 239951 km on the clock. I'm getting a MIL and sometimes a transmission warning light. The error memory shows a faulty transmission oil temperature sensor. The gearbox occasionally goes into emergency mode, slips, shifts uncleanly, and even makes some grinding noises when shifting. I've checked the basics and I'm leaning towards low gearbox oil level. Has anyone experienced anything similar?

Summary of the thread

The 2023 Chevrolet Groove experienced issues with the transmission oil temperature sensor, leading to a malfunction indicator light and transmission warning light. The vehicle exhibited symptoms such as emergency mode activation, slipping, unclean shifting, and grinding noises. The problem was attributed to a low gearbox oil level, which caused the sensor to malfunction. The solution involved replacing the faulty sensor and topping off the gearbox oil, resolving the issues and restoring normal operation.

Sounds familiar. I had almost the same symptoms with my Groove a while back. Did you notice any overheating problems before the sensor went haywire?

Good question! I did notice some slight overheating issues a few weeks before this all started. Nothing major, but the temperature gauge was running a bit higher than usual. Did you replace the transmission sensor in the end, or was it something else?

Yep, sounds like the sensor. The overheating likely cooked it. I'd suggest getting it checked out at a workshop ASAP, especially with those shifting issues. Could save you from bigger problems down the line.

Thanks for the insight! I appreciate the advice. I took it to a local shop, and you were spot on. Turns out the gearbox oil level was indeed too low, causing the sensor to read incorrectly. They replaced the faulty transmission oil temperature sensor and topped off the oil. Cost me around 365€. Runs like new now!
