GT86 Hissing Sound and Fuel Consumption
Summary of the thread
A 2019 Toyota GT86 owner reported increased fuel consumption, a check engine light, and a loud hissing sound during acceleration. These symptoms suggested a possible leak in the air intake system. A similar issue on another vehicle was resolved by identifying a cracked intake hose. Following this advice, the owner confirmed a cracked intake hose was the cause, and replacing it resolved the issues.

Interesting! Where exactly should I be looking for these hoses? Are they easy to spot, or do I need to take a bunch of stuff apart to get to them?

On my BMW, the hose was pretty accessible once I removed the engine cover. It ran from the airbox to the intake manifold. Given your symptoms and the age of the car, I'd bet it's a similar issue. Honestly, if you're not comfortable poking around, a mechanic will find it quickly. It's a common problem.

Thanks for the advice! I took it to a local shop, and you were spot on. Turns out it was a cracked intake hose. They replaced it for around 100€. The hissing is gone, the check engine light is off, and my fuel consumption is back to normal. Appreciate the help!

Sounds familiar! I had similar symptoms on my old BMW 3 series. High fuel consumption, check engine light, and a hissing sound under acceleration. I suspected a turbocharger issue initially, but it turned out to be a cracked intake hose after the throttle body. Might be worth checking those hoses for leaks.
