HHR Transmission Oil Pressure Sensor Fault
Summary of the thread
A 2009 Chevrolet HHR is experiencing transmission issues, including an illuminated engine warning light and a fault related to the transmission oil pressure sensor. The gearbox has entered emergency mode, causing slippage, unclean shifts, and grinding noises. The suspected cause is a low gearbox oil level. A similar case was resolved by checking and topping off the oil level and replacing the faulty sensor, suggesting these steps as a potential solution.

Indeed, I suspected as much. I was inquiring if anyone else has had a similar sensor fault that triggered these symptoms specifically, and if checking the oil level resolved the issue.

In my case, the low oil level was the culprit, although it didn't completely resolve the issue. The transmission still wasn't shifting perfectly smoothly afterwards. Ended up taking it to a workshop and they replaced the sensor in addition to topping off the oil. Best to get it checked out.

Thank you for confirming my suspicions and sharing your experience. It appears a visit to a workshop is unavoidable. The oil level was indeed low, and after addressing this and replacing the pressure sensor, the total cost amounted to 365€. The issue is now resolved.

I had something similar happen in my HHR. It wasn't quite as dramatic, but the transmission was acting up. Have you checked the oil level? That's the first place I'd start.
