Impala Overheating Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2001 Chevrolet Impala was experiencing overheating issues, with the radiator fan not functioning and the check engine light on. The problem was suspected to be related to a bad speed sensor, but further investigation suggested checking the thermal switch and fan motor. After taking the car to a workshop, it was found that a bad thermal switch connection was causing the issue. The repair resolved the overheating problem, restoring the cooling system's functionality.

Are there tests to check the thermal switch and fan motor, or should I just replace them? I don’t want to spend money if I don’t have to, but I want it fixed quickly.

I'm no mechanic, but I checked connections and fuses first. Honestly, you should take it to a workshop. Mine was a bad connection that got worse. Overheating can cause more damage, so it's better to be safe.

Thanks for the advice! I took it to a local shop, and it was a bad thermal switch connection like you said. The repair was 250€ including diagnostics and parts. The overheating is fixed, and the cooling system works now. Thanks for the help!

I had something similar with my Impala. Does the temperature gauge climb quickly, especially when you stop and go? If the fan isn't running, it will overheat. Have you checked the thermal switch or the fan motor? That's where I'd look first.
