Jumpy Jerking Acceleration Loss of Power

Alright, Citroen Jumpy owners, I need some brainpower! My 2021 diesel van's got 153692 km on the clock and is acting up. I'm getting jerking when accelerating, the check engine light is on, and the engine's down on power. I've scanned it and there's an error stored, plus the engine sometimes stalls at idle and smells strongly of exhaust. It runs rough too. I suspect it might be the intake manifold, possibly leaking due to scorching. Anyone experienced similar?

Summary of the thread

A 2021 Citroen Jumpy diesel van with 153,692 km is experiencing jerking during acceleration, a check engine light, loss of power, engine stalling at idle, and a strong exhaust smell. The suspected cause is a leaking intake manifold, possibly due to scorching. After checking for hissing sounds and confirming the issue, the intake manifold was found to be defective and was replaced at a workshop.

Sounds familiar! I had almost the exact same symptoms on my old Vauxhall Vivaro. Check engine light, rough running, loss of power… Drove me nuts! Have you checked for any hissing sounds around the intake manifold? Could be a telltale sign of a gasket leak. What kind of manifold pressure are you seeing?

Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't specifically listened for hissing, but I'll definitely give it a shot tomorrow. As for manifold pressure, I'd need to hook up the diagnostic tool again to get live readings. Is that definitely the place to start, or are there any other things I should check first?

Yeah, definitely sounds like a manifold issue. The hissing is a good quick check. If the pressure readings are off, and you've got all those symptoms, I'd bet money on a leaking manifold. It’s probably best to book it into a workshop though; these things can be tricky to diagnose properly without the right equipment. I ended up chasing my tail for ages before admitting defeat!

Appreciate the advice! I checked again and there was definitely a hissing sound. I took it to my local workshop, and it turns out the intake manifold was indeed defective, likely due to scorching as suspected. The final bill came to 1180€ including parts and labor. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
