Ka transmission issue
Summary of the thread
A 2008 Ford Ka with a diesel engine exhibited transmission issues, including slipping, rough shifting, and grinding noises, accompanied by an engine warning light and a fault code related to the transmission oil pressure sensor. The core problem was identified as low transmission oil, which was confirmed and resolved by topping up the oil and replacing the faulty sensor. This intervention successfully addressed the transmission issues.

Thanks for the quick response! I haven't seen any obvious leaks. I don’t have the exact fault code at the moment, sorry. Is checking the transmission oil level something I can do myself, or does it require special tools and equipment? What would be the best approach for checking the oil level on a Ka?

No worries. Checking the oil level on a Ka’s transmission can be a bit tricky. It usually requires lifting the car and accessing a specific plug on the transmission itself. Without knowing the oil level I can't be sure, but your first thought might be correct. If you're not comfortable doing that, I'd strongly recommend taking it to a workshop to get it checked out. Better safe than sorry when it comes to transmissions!

Thanks for all the advice! I had the Ka checked at a workshop. You were right, the transmission oil level was indeed too low. Topped it up, replaced the faulty sensor, and that seems to have fixed the issue. Final bill came to 365€ Appreciate the help!

Hey there, the symptoms you're describing do sound like a possible issue with the transmission oil pressure. It's worth checking the oil level first, it's the simplest thing to verify. If it's low, that could definitely be the culprit. Have you noticed any leaks under the car? Also, what was the exact fault code you retrieved?
