Kalos Engine Stalling IAC Valve

I'm having trouble with my 2011 Chevrolet Kalos, gasoline engine. The check engine light is on, and a scan shows an error related to the idle air control (IAC) valve. The engine keeps stalling when idling, like at traffic lights. Could a bad IAC valve really cause that? I've cleaned the throttle body a little, but it didn't really help. Anyone experienced something similar?

Summary of the thread

The 2011 Chevrolet Kalos was experiencing engine stalling at idle, with a check engine light indicating an issue with the idle air control (IAC) valve. The problem was suspected to be related to the IAC valve or possibly a vacuum leak around the intake manifold. After cleaning the throttle body without success, it was suggested to check for vacuum leaks or have a professional inspection. Ultimately, a workshop confirmed the IAC valve issue, cleaned the intake, replaced the valve, and resolved the stalling problem.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Sounds familiar. I had almost the exact same symptoms with my old Opel Astra, though yours is a Chevy. Same engine stalling at idle, check engine light. Did you check for any other obvious stuff, like vacuum leaks around the intake? That can mess with your idle too.

Vacuum leaks, huh? I haven't specifically checked, but wouldn't a leak cause issues at higher RPMs too? It seems to run fine when I'm actually driving, just idles rough and dies. Where exactly should I be looking for these leaks?

Vacuum leaks can be tricky. Sometimes they only show up at idle because the engine isn't pulling as much air. The hoses connected to the intake manifold are a good place to start. Honestly, given that you've cleaned the throttle body already and it didn't help, and you're getting an IAC valve code, it might be worth taking it to a workshop. They have smoke testers that can pinpoint leaks you might miss visually.

Thanks for the advice! You were spot on about the intake. I took it to a workshop, and they confirmed it was the IAC valve acting up due to a dirty intake. They cleaned everything, replaced the valve, and now it's running perfectly. Cost me about 425€, but at least it's fixed!
