Kicks vibrating steering

I've got a 2019 Nissan Kicks with a gasoline engine, currently at 135194 km. The power steering has started acting up. I'm getting a vibrating/shaking steering wheel, the handling feels spongy, and there's an error stored in the memory. It requires increased effort when steering, like the power steering is failing intermittently. I've visually inspected the steering column and don't see any obvious leaks. I suspect a faulty connection, perhaps a cable or plug.

Summary of the thread

A 2019 Nissan Kicks experienced issues with the power steering, including a vibrating steering wheel, spongy handling, and increased steering effort, suggesting intermittent power steering failure. The problem was suspected to be a faulty connection, possibly a cable or plug. It was recommended to check the voltage at the power steering motor connector, as voltage fluctuations could cause these symptoms. Ultimately, the issue was resolved by fixing a defective plug connection at a workshop.

Vibrating steering and spongy handling in a Kicks often points to electrical issues within the power steering system. Have you checked the voltage at the power steering motor connector when the fault occurs? A drop in voltage can cause intermittent failures and trigger those symptoms.

Thanks for the tip. I haven't put a meter on it while it's happening, but the resting voltage seems normal. Is it possible for the voltage to fluctuate rapidly enough that a standard multimeter wouldn't catch it?

Indeed, the voltage can fluctuate rapidly, and a standard multimeter might not catch those brief drops. Considering the error code and symptoms, it's advisable to have a workshop perform a thorough diagnostic. It may indeed be a connection, but there are other more intricate possibilities. Also, they can use specific diagnostic equipment to accurately assess the issue.

Appreciate the confirmation. I'll get it into a shop. It was indeed just a defective plug connection. Cost 95€ to fix. Thanks again!
