Lacetti intake manifold flap issue

Hi, I have a 2007 Chevrolet Lacetti with a diesel engine and about 51000 km on it. I'm experiencing a problem I suspect is related to the intake manifold flap control. The symptoms include reduced engine power, rough running, and a noticeable jerking when accelerating. There's also a loud hissing sound when I put my foot down, and fuel consumption seems higher than usual. I'm leaning towards a defective intake manifold control switch. Has anyone else encountered something similar?

Summary of the thread

A 2007 Chevrolet Lacetti with a diesel engine is experiencing reduced power, rough running, jerking during acceleration, a loud hissing sound, and increased fuel consumption. These symptoms suggest a potential issue with the intake manifold flap control, which may be defective. A similar problem in another vehicle was resolved by replacing the intake manifold flap control, indicating that this could be a viable solution. It is recommended to have a mechanic diagnose and address the issue to ensure proper repair.

Hey there! Your symptoms sound awfully familiar. I had a similar issue with my old Renault Megane, although it was a petrol engine. It started with reduced power, and then the engine light came on. The garage mentioned something about the air intake being restricted, and that the engine was misfiring. The intake manifold is responsible for distributing the air evenly and efficiently into the engine, so any problem there can cause real havoc. Have you checked for any error codes?

Thanks for the insight! No error codes on the dashboard, but I haven't hooked it up to a proper diagnostic tool yet. When you say 'air intake restricted' regarding the intake manifold, was it the flap control specifically that was the culprit, or something else?

Well, they replaced the intake manifold 'flap control', which I think directs the airflow differently at different engine speeds to control the power and emissions. The part itself wasn't crazy expensive, but the labor bumped up the total. It's probably best to get a mechanic to check it out, better safe than sorry!

Alright, I appreciate the helpful reply! It does sound like the intake manifold flap control is the source of my woes as well. I'll take it to the workshop ASAP. It sounds like that should fix the problem. Eventually the repair cost 465€.
