Livinia excessive fuel consumption and stalling
Summary of the thread
A 2021 Nissan Livinia with high mileage is experiencing excessive fuel consumption, stalling at idle, and visible smoke on acceleration, accompanied by a check engine light. Diagnostics indicate a potential issue with the mass air flow (MAF) sensor, which could be affecting the air-fuel ratio. While a marginally dirty air filter was considered, the symptoms suggest a more significant sensor malfunction. A certified workshop confirmed the MAF sensor defect, leading to its replacement as the solution.

I did inspect the air filter, and it appeared acceptable, though not perfectly clean. Could a marginally dirty air filter really cause such pronounced symptoms, or should I focus on a sensor malfunction?

Marginally dirty filter usually doesn't cause that much trouble, especially the smoke. Your symptoms definitely point to a sensor failure. I'd advise getting a proper diagnostic at a workshop. Could save you from chasing ghosts.

I took it to a certified Nissan workshop. The diagnostic confirmed a defective mass air flow sensor requiring replacement. The final repair cost was 365€. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Smoke and stalling sounds rough. Did you check the air filter first? A clogged filter messes with the MAF sensor readings. I had similar issues on my old ride, turned out to be just that.
