Malibu Crankshaft Camshaft Reference Value Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2013 Chevrolet Malibu diesel is experiencing issues with the check engine light, low engine power, poor response, and increased fuel consumption. Diagnostic codes indicate a crankshaft to camshaft reference value issue. A faulty crankshaft sensor is suspected as a potential cause, but it is advised to also check the camshaft sensor, as both sensors work together and can affect each other. A professional diagnosis is recommended to confirm the issue before proceeding with replacements.

Thanks. Did you notice any specific conditions that made it worse, like engine temperature or load? And did the codes specifically point to the crankshaft sensor in your case?

Yes, the codes pointed to the crankshaft sensor. Replacing it fixed it, but I'd check the camshaft sensor too. With your symptoms, a workshop should take a look and confirm before you replace anything. Cost me around 340€.

Thanks for the confirmation and advice. I'll check both crankshaft and camshaft sensors and get a diagnosis from a good workshop. I appreciate your help.

I had similar issues on my Malibu. Check engine light, poor response, the works. It could be the crankshaft sensor. Have you checked the cam sensor too? They work together and can mess each other up.
