Malibu diesel exhaust pressure issue
Summary of the thread
A 2019 Chevrolet Malibu diesel is experiencing reduced engine power, smoke during acceleration, and a strong exhaust smell, with diagnostics indicating low diesel particulate filter exhaust pressure. A potential cause could be a faulty exhaust back pressure sensor, as similar symptoms were resolved by replacing this sensor in another vehicle. The suggested solution is to have a mechanic inspect and possibly replace the exhaust back pressure sensor.

Thanks for the tip. How did you confirm the exhaust back pressure sensor was the problem? What diagnostic steps did you take?

I didn't have the equipment to diagnose it myself. I suspected the exhaust system because of the symptoms. Given the reduced power, smoke, and warning lights, I took it to a trusted workshop, and they confirmed it was indeed the exhaust back pressure sensor.

Thanks. I'll have a mechanic inspect the exhaust back pressure sensor. I'm expecting the repair to cost about 245€.

I own a Chevrolet Malibu diesel, and those symptoms sound very familiar. It could be the exhaust back pressure sensor. When that failed on my car, it triggered similar warnings and performance issues. Have you checked the sensor itself for any visible damage or loose connections?
