Matiz Inlet VANOS Fault
Summary of the thread
A 2007 Chevrolet Matiz is experiencing a check engine light and increased fuel consumption, with an error code indicating a fault in the inlet VANOS. Possible causes include issues with the camshaft solenoid valve or its power supply. Suggestions include checking for oil sludge or timing chain problems, as these can affect the variable timing system. Ultimately, a mechanic confirmed the inlet VANOS mechanics were faulty and required replacement.

Thanks for the suggestion about oil sludge and the timing chain. How did you diagnose the oil sludge in your Opel Astra? What indicators or tests did you use? And how did you address it once you found it?

The mechanic saw the oil sludge when he removed the valve cover to check the inlet camshaft. It was pretty obvious. Honestly, with your symptoms and the VANOS system's complexity, a workshop might be best for a proper diagnosis. They can check the VANOS solenoid and timing components.

I took your advice and consulted a mechanic. After inspection, the inlet VANOS mechanics were indeed faulty and needed replacement. The total repair cost was 250€.

I had a similar issue with my Opel Astra diesel. Check engine light and increased fuel consumption. For me, it was oil sludge messing with the variable timing system. Have you checked for oil sludge or the timing chain? Look there before focusing on the VANOS solenoid.
