Mercedes Citan Defrost Issue Low Heat
Summary of the thread
A 2021 Mercedes Citan is experiencing a defrost issue with low heating output, and an error related to the air distribution flap is stored. The problem could be due to a defective cable or plug on the air distribution component, affecting air circulation. After considering potential causes, including the climate control module and heater core, it was determined that the issue was indeed a defective cable to the air distribution flap, which was resolved with a replacement.

Thanks. I haven't checked the climate control module beyond the settings. When you say 'checked', do you mean visually or with diagnostics? Is there a simple way to check the heater core without special tools? I thought the error code meant it was the air distribution flap motor, but now I'm not so sure.

By 'checked' I mean more than just looking at settings. My issue had similar symptoms, but it was a faulty sensor in the climate control system. It was misreporting temperatures and messing with the air distribution. It's hard to be certain without diagnostic tools. The error code could mean the air distribution flap, but consider other possibilities before replacing parts. I'd suggest a workshop to read the error memory. They should be able to pinpoint and resolve it.

I appreciate the insight. I took your advice and had it diagnosed. You were right. The cable to the air distribution flap was defective as I suspected. Replacement and labor were 95€, just as I thought. Thanks for steering me right.

That's interesting. I had something similar in my Citan. Before you spend a lot, have you checked the climate control module? Could it be electrical, not mechanical? Is the heater core getting hot? If air circulation is weak, shouldn't the blower motor sound like it's struggling? Is air distribution really the problem, or is the air not getting heated?
