Mercedes CLK Camshaft Sensor Issue

Experiencing some gremlins with my 2007 Mercedes CLK Gasoline engine Symptoms are rough start stalls at idle check engine light Diagnostic code points to a camshaft sensor issue I'm suspecting a faulty encoder wheel on the camshafts themselves Has anyone else run into this What are your thoughts on sensor testing before I potentially commit to a 695€ repair

Summary of the thread

A 2007 Mercedes CLK owner experienced rough starts, stalling at idle, and a check engine light, with diagnostics indicating a camshaft sensor issue. The owner suspected a faulty encoder wheel on the camshafts. After confirming the camshaft sensor as the problem through testing, the owner proceeded with a repair costing 695€. The car is now running smoothly, and the suggestion to consider the crankshaft sensor for future issues was appreciated.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Camshaft sensor problems huh I've got a CLK too Similar issues a while back Check engine light was on that's for sure Stalling Maybe Can't quite remember Did you check the crankshaft sensor as well I mean is it definitely the camshaft position that's causing it Just throwing it out there

Crankshaft sensor interesting The error code specifically mentioned the camshaft position Are you suggesting it might be throwing a false code or that a failing crankshaft sensor could indirectly affect the camshaft reading How did you pinpoint your issue

Well pinpoint Maybe that's too strong a word I fiddled around read some forum posts and eventually just took it to a workshop They diagnosed it pretty quickly I mainly wanted to know if you had checked it because a faulty crankshaft sensor can cause all sorts of weird engine control problems If the code points to the camshaft sensor and you've checked the wiring maybe it's time to get it looked at properly

Appreciate the input Confirmed via sensor testing that the camshaft sensor was indeed the culprit Likely the encoder wheel as initially suspected Ended up shelling out the 695€ for the repair Car's running smoothly now Thanks for the crankshaft sensor suggestion something to keep in mind for future troubleshooting
