Mercedes GLK diesel engine issue
Summary of the thread
A 2008 Mercedes GLK diesel is experiencing a loss of power, poor engine response, and increased fuel consumption, with a check engine light indicating an error related to the crankshaft to camshaft reference value. The issue is suspected to be a defective crankshaft sensor, which can affect engine timing. It is suggested to check the wiring to the crankshaft position sensor and consider professional diagnosis and repair, as the problem was resolved by replacing the crankshaft sensor.

Thanks for your reply! The error code mentioned the reference value, not directly the cam sensor. I didn't check the wiring to the crankshaft position sensor, but I will add it to the list. Was your issue also related to the crankshaft?

Yeah, mine ended up being the crankshaft sensor. The mechanic explained that it messes up the timing and throws off the reference value between the crankshaft and camshaft. Honestly, unless you're comfortable working on cars, I'd suggest taking it to a workshop. It can be tricky to diagnose these things without the right tools.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! I took your advice and brought it to a trusted mechanic. You were right, it was the crankshaft sensor! The final repair cost was around 340€. Now the car is running smoothly again. I really appreciate your help!

Hey there! I had something similar happen with my GLK diesel too! Check engine light, sluggish acceleration, the whole shebang. Was the error code specifically mentioning the cam sensor, or just the reference value being off? Did you happen to check the wiring to the crankshaft position sensor? Sometimes it's just a loose connection.
