Mercedes V Klasse Engine Issues Resolved
Summary of the thread
A 2006 Mercedes V Klasse with a gasoline engine was experiencing poor fuel economy, stalling at idle, a check engine light, and excessive smoke during acceleration. The owner suspected a faulty MAF sensor, which was confirmed by a diagnostic scan. After replacing the MAF sensor, the issues were resolved, resulting in improved engine performance and fuel economy.

Yes, I scanned it and it gave a code for the MAF sensor. I was hoping it might be something else. Does the brand of the MAF sensor really matter? Are some brands bad?

If the code says MAF and your symptoms match, it's likely the MAF. Some aftermarket sensors can be unreliable. I'd suggest getting a decent brand. If you want to save time and effort, just take it to a workshop.

I took it to a local mechanic, they confirmed it was the MAF and replaced it. It cost 365€ total. It runs great now, no more smoke and the engine isn't stalling. Fuel economy seems normal again.

Sounds like a classic MAF sensor failure. Have you scanned for any fault codes? What brand MAF sensor are you planning on using?
