Thanks for the detailed response! My Boxster has 23976 KM on the clock and just had its service two months ago. I haven't noticed any weird engine sounds yet, but your experience with the oil pressure control valve issue sounds really similar to what I'm dealing with. I'll definitely get it checked out right away. There's a Porsche specialist nearby that I trust, so I'll book it in with them. Just hoping it's not anything more serious than what you experienced!
Hey again! Thanks for the follow-up. Yeah, with those symptoms on your Boxster, I'm even more convinced it might be the same issue I had with my Cayman. The mileage on your car is actually pretty similar to when I had my problem (I was at around 25,000 KM). Just to share a bit more from my experience, when I first noticed the metal particles, I was pretty freaked out too! But in my case, they turned out to be fine metal shavings from normal wear on the oil pressure control valve. The defective cable harness was causing the valve to not regulate properly, which triggered all those warning lights. Since you've had a recent service, that's actually good news, means they would've spotted any major issues then. My mechanic told me these oil pressure control problems aren't uncommon in our generation of Porsches. The 350€ fix I mentioned earlier included labor, so hopefully yours will be in the same ballpark. Keep us posted on what your specialist finds! And hey, if you need any more details about what happened with mine, just ask. Fingers crossed it's the same straightforward fix!
Here's how I would complete the conversation from's perspective: Thanks so much for all the extra details! That's really reassuring to hear that it was a relatively straightforward fix in your case. I've actually just called my specialist and got an appointment for tomorrow morning. They seemed to think it could be the same issue you mentioned, especially given the similar mileage. Definitely feeling less anxious now knowing yours was sorted without any major drama. I'll update the thread once I get the diagnosis, but really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. It's exactly why I love this community, there's always someone who's been through something similar and willing to help out!
Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2014 Porsche Cayman (I have some experience working on cars, but I mainly trust my mechanic for serious issues). The symptoms you're describing sound exactly like what I dealt with last year! In my case, it turned out to be an oily and defective cable harness on the oil pressure control valve. My trusted workshop fixed it for about 350€. Once replaced, all the warning lights disappeared and everything went back to normal. But before jumping to conclusions, could you share: How many miles/km are on your Boxster? Have you noticed any unusual engine sounds? When was your last oil change? Also, with metal particles in the oil, I'd definitely get it checked ASAP to prevent any major engine damage. If you need a good Porsche specialist in your area, just let me know!
