Micra preheating lamp issue
Summary of the thread
A 2015 Nissan Micra diesel is experiencing issues with the preheating lamp not switching off, the check engine light being on, and smoking during acceleration. The problem is suspected to be a faulty connection to the preheating unit. It is suggested to check for defects or shorts in the engine preheat components. The issue was resolved by repairing a defective cable or plug connection in the preheating unit at a workshop.

Thanks for the quick reply! No, the engine seems to run smoothly. But if it's not the preheating unit, what else could cause the preheating lamp to stay on and the smoke? What electrical fault are we talking about?

Okay, smooth running is good news, but those symptoms do point to an electrical gremlin somewhere in the system controlling the preheating. Given it's intermittent and affecting multiple systems, I'd lean towards a defective part within that system. Honestly, I'd recommend getting it checked by a workshop before it causes further damage. If it is just a defective cable or plug connection of the preheating unit, it might be an easy fix.

Thanks so much! I took your advice and brought it to a workshop. Turns out you were right - it was a defective cable or plug connection of the preheating unit! The repair cost me 95€, which is way less than I was expecting. Really appreciate the help!

That's a tricky one! Is the engine running rough, or is it just the smoke and lights that are the obvious problems? I'm thinking maybe it's not just the preheating unit itself, but something else in the ignition system causing the issues? Have you checked any of the other engine preheat components for defects or shorts?
