Mini Countryman Headlight Range Control Fault
Summary of the thread
A 2017 Mini Countryman Hybrid is experiencing a persistent headlight range control fault, with an error stored in the memory and a warning light on the speedometer. The issue involves the low beams shining incorrectly, either too high or too low. A likely cause identified is a defective servomotor within the headlight assembly. The suggested solution is to replace the faulty servomotor, which resolved the problem in this case.

Thanks for the quick reply! I did visually inspect the electrical connectors, but didn't see anything obvious. When you say 'control module', are you referring to the main ECU, or is there a separate control module specifically for the headlights? And when you had this issue on your Volvo, was it also due to a faulty servomotor?

Yep, sounds like the servomotor! On my Volvo, that's exactly what it was. A new headlight assembly sorted it out. I'd recommend taking your Mini to a workshop to confirm the diagnosis, but it does sound like a similar situation. Don't you think it's always something with these headlight malfunctions?

Update for anyone experiencing a similar headlight malfunction with their Mini Countryman. As suspected, it was indeed a defective servomotor within the headlight assembly. The repair, including parts and labor, came to approximately 1040€. Now the beam adjustment is working perfectly again. Thanks for your help!

Headlight range control fault, eh? Sounds familiar! I had a similar issue with my old Volvo – kept getting a headlight warning light. Did you check the electrical connectors to the headlight switch and the control module? Sometimes it's just a loose connection causing the beam adjustment to go haywire. Is the error consistently present, or does it come and go?
