Nissan Cima Transmission Issues

My 2009 Nissan Cima with a gasoline engine has 231912 km on it. Lately, the transmission indicator and check engine lights keep popping on. The automatic transmission goes into emergency mode and isn’t shifting smoothly at all. It feels like it's slipping with grinding noises sometimes when I shift. My mechanic found an error related to the radiator oil pressure. He suspects it might be a defective cable or plug connection. Could this be the cause? Has anyone else experienced this? I'm worried about a costly repair.

Summary of the thread

A 2009 Nissan Cima is experiencing transmission issues, with the transmission indicator and check engine lights activating, and the vehicle entering emergency mode with shifting problems and grinding noises. The mechanic identified an error related to radiator oil pressure, suspecting a defective cable or plug connection as the cause. A similar case was resolved by addressing a faulty connection, suggesting that checking the connection and possibly the pressure sensor could be effective solutions.

Greetings! I have a Nissan Cima as well. Your description is eerily similar to what I went through last year. The transmission acting up, the lights on the dashboard resembling a Christmas tree… It was quite a fright. You mentioned a radiator oil pressure issue. Was there any mention of leak detection performed? Did you check the coolant level recently? A low coolant level could impact the pressure and give you those symptoms. Also, has anyone checked the pressure sensor itself? These are the things to check before digging deeper.

Thanks for the reply! The mechanic mentioned a potential coolant leak, but we didn't specifically do a leak detection test. I have been topping off the coolant more often than usual, so it adds up. He did mention checking the pressure sensor, but he wasn't sure if that was the primary issue. What was the exact cause in your case, if you don’t mind me asking?

In my case, after chasing shadows, it turned out to be a faulty connection as well. Although it wasn't exactly the same part you are describing, the symptoms were identical, and the error code pointed to a pressure issue. It is like having a bad wire on a lamp; it can cause all sorts of flickering and strange behavior. The cost was minimal. However, I suggest you visit a professional workshop. They will have the correct tools to detect if there is an actual leak.

Thanks so much for the info! I really appreciate you sharing your experience. I’ll get the connection checked out first and see if that solves the problem. The mechanic quoted me about 95€ for the repair, which seems reasonable if it's just a cable or plug. Fingers crossed that's all it is!
