Nissan Patrol ECU Fault
Summary of the thread
A 2007 Nissan Patrol diesel exhibited reduced engine power and an error code, suggesting a defective engine control unit (ECU). The main relay was suspected as the cause. After diagnostics confirmed the issue, replacing the main relay resolved the problem, clearing the error and restoring normal engine function.

The diagnostics pointed to a fault within the ECU itself, hence the relay suspicion. A faulty relay, I believe, could cause the ECU to misbehave or throw errors. By system reset, do you mean disconnecting the battery or something more involved with car diagnostics?

Yeah, I meant the basic disconnect-the-battery trick. But if your diagnostics are already pointing at the ECU, and the car diagnostics says it's the relay, then I'd be careful and take it to a workshop. Automotive electronics are a pain. For me the issue was the ECU, after the relay got checked.

Appreciate the input. I traced it to the main relay as suspected. Replaced it, cleared the error memory, and all seems good now. Cost me 120€ all in for the part. Thanks again!

Whoa, sounds familiar! I've got a Patrol too and had similar symptoms a while back. Reduced power is no fun. Did your diagnostics specifically call out the relay? The ECU's a pretty complex computer module, so before you start on the likely cause, double-check that the fault code really is coming from the ECU and that it really is the relay and not, say, a bad sensor giving the ECU bad data. Have you tried a system reset at all?
