Note ePower belt handover failure
Summary of the thread
A 2020 Nissan Note e-Power experienced a belt-handover function failure at 109,411 km, suspected to be due to a defective belt bringer/handover mechanism. A fellow owner suggested that a faulty belt tensioner pulley might be causing the issue, leading to a slipping belt and potential damage to other components. The problem was confirmed to be the belt tensioner, and the repair was successfully completed by a mechanic.

Yes, I did notice a slight squeal recently, mostly right after starting the engine. I thought it was just the environment, but now I'm not so sure. You mentioned potential damage to other components – what else should I be looking at?

Given the squealing, a faulty tensioner pulley is likely the cause. A slipping belt can damage other components. The belt might shred, and the debris could contaminate other pulleys or the engine. I wouldn't try to fix this yourself unless you have a lot of experience with car maintenance, especially hybrid systems. Get a qualified mechanic to look at it. I recommend a workshop.

Thanks for the advice. I took it to a local mechanic, and it was the belt tensioner. The whole repair was 455€. I appreciate the help – saved me some trouble!

I have a Note e-Power too, and that sounds familiar. Are you hearing any unusual noises, like a high-pitched squeal, especially during cold starts or under heavy electrical load? The belt tensioner pulley is often the problem. If it's not maintaining proper belt tension, the belt can slip, causing handover failure and damage. Check the serpentine belt for wear. Are there any unusual wear patterns?
