Overheating and air conditioning problems with Mercedes GLS Diesel 2015

Overheating

Air conditioning blows warm air

Hi guys, I have a problem with my 2015 Mercedes GLS Diesel, mileage 152553 km: The air conditioning only blows warm air and the car permanently overheats. I suspect that the electric fan could be to blame. Do any of you have experience with this problem? How did your visit to the mechanic go? Would like to get some opinions before I go back to the garage after my bad experience last time. Thanks for your help!

Hello, I had a similar problem with my 2012 Mercedes GLK Diesel. The electric fan "control unit/resistor" was actually defective, just as you suspect. As a result, the air conditioning system was only blowing warm air and the car was constantly overheating. When I had this checked at the garage, it turned out that the whole thing really is a serious problem and should not be taken lightly. After a detailed diagnosis, it was determined that the control unit and the electric fan resistor needed to be replaced in order to fix the problem properly. The whole process took a few days, but since then the car has been running perfectly again. Hope this helps you a bit and you have better luck with your garage this time!

Hey, thanks for your quick reply! Glad to hear you were able to fix the problem with your GLK. I suspect I probably have the same problem with my GLS. Can you still remember what you paid for it at the garage? And have you had any other problems since replacing the control unit and the resistor, or has your car been running smoothly since then? Thanks again for your help!

Hey, no problem, always happy to help! I paid €480 for the repair of the electric fan "control unit/resistor" back then. It wasn't cheap, but the problem with the electric fan has been fixed since then, so it was worth it to me. Since then, my car has been running without any problems and the air conditioning system is blowing cool air again. I would advise you to have this checked out too. Best wishes and good luck with your car!

Hey, thanks for the info, that helps me a lot! Of course, €480 isn't exactly a lot of money, but if it helps to fix the problem, I'll probably have to accept it. I'll make an appointment at the workshop tomorrow and hope that it goes as smoothly as it did for you. It's reassuring to hear that your car has been running smoothly since then. Your experience gives me a little more confidence for my upcoming visit to the garage. Thanks again and all the best for you and your GLK! Take care!
