Peugeot 106 Stuck in Park Control Unit?
Summary of the thread
A 2002 Peugeot 106 diesel is experiencing issues where it seems stuck in park, with the engine not starting, a check engine light on, and rough shifting. The problem may be related to the gear shifter or shift lock, but the gear linkage appears fine. A similar case suggested that the control unit might be faulty, which was confirmed by a garage, leading to a repair involving a new control unit.

Thanks for the quick reply! Yes, that's exactly how it feels. It's as if the car isn't recognizing that it's in park or neutral. Do you remember what the fix was for yours? Was it a big job?

It sounds like the same problem. I'm no mechanic, but based on your description and my experience, I'd recommend taking it to a workshop. They can properly diagnose the error and confirm if the control unit is faulty. Unfortunately, that was the issue with mine.

Thanks for the advice! I took it to a garage, and you were spot on. The control unit was indeed defective. The repair, including a new unit and labor, came to around 1000€. Appreciate your help in narrowing down the issue!

I had something similar happen with my 106. Does it feel like it's not fully engaging in park or neutral? Mine was throwing all sorts of errors and acting like it was still in gear even when it wasn't. Was difficult to start sometimes.
