Peugeot 406 Headlight Washer Failure
Summary of the thread
The headlight washer system on a 2001 Peugeot 406 failed, along with the windshield washer system. The fuses were checked and found to be fine, suggesting the issue might be elsewhere. A possible cause was identified as a defective cable connection of the pump or a faulty relay, which could affect both systems. The problem was resolved by replacing the defective cable connection, as confirmed by a workshop visit.

Pump noise, good shout! I'll check that. Where exactly is the pump located? And is there a separate relay for the headlight washers versus the windshield washers? I'm assuming the windshield washer pump is dead too since it conked out at the same time...

Yep, sounds like exactly what happened to mine! The pump is usually near the washer fluid reservoir, often in the wheel well. And from what you are describing, it is quite possible that one defective cable or relay causes both systems to fail. If you can't find the fault yourself, take it to the workshop; they can find the source of the issue faster than you can.

You nailed it! Took it to the workshop, and it turned out to be a defective cable connection of the pump. New cable plus labour came to 165€. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

Headlight washers, eh? I had something similar happen on my 406. Check the cable connection of the pump or the relay. Bet you a beer that's where your gremlins are hiding. Is the pump making any noise when you try to use the washers?
