Peugeot 407 Overheating
Summary of the thread
A 2006 Peugeot 407 is experiencing significant engine overheating, with the radiator fan not activating as expected. The issue may be linked to a faulty thermal switch or fan speed sensor. A suggestion was made to check the fan speed sensor, as its failure can prevent the fan from operating correctly. The recommended solution is to have a professional mechanic diagnose and potentially replace the faulty sensor to resolve the overheating problem.

Interesting! A speed sensor, you say? No weird noises that I can hear, just nothing at all from the fan. Whereabouts is the speed sensor located? Is it a pain to get to? Maybe I should test it first?

Yeah, the speed sensor. Honestly, finding it is half the battle, and testing it needs the right gear. I ended up taking mine to a workshop. Turned out that was the culprit. They replaced it, and the overheating vanished. It was worth the cost.

Thanks! I'm gonna bite the bullet and take it to a mechanic. Sounds like it's beyond my limited skills, lol. Hopefully, it's just the sensor and nothing more serious. You saved me a lot of time, so thanks again! The bill was 250€.

I had something similar happen with my 407. Check your fan speed sensor. If that's gone kaput, it can cause the fan to not work properly, leading to overheating. Does the fan make any weird noises before it fails completely?
