Pixo rough idle stalling

Hi, I'm having some real problems with my 2013 Nissan Pixo, it has a gasoline engine. It only has 20662 km on the clock! Lately, it's been a nightmare to start, and my fuel consumption has shot through the roof. The engine feels like it's lost a lot of power, idles really rough, and sometimes just stalls completely when I'm waiting at lights. I suspected bad fuel, so I added some injector cleaner, but it hasn't helped at all. Could it be something to do with the fuel injection?

Summary of the thread

The 2013 Nissan Pixo is experiencing rough idling, stalling, and increased fuel consumption, possibly due to issues with the fuel injection system. Initial attempts to resolve the problem with injector cleaner were unsuccessful. A clogged fuel filter was considered as a potential cause, but the symptoms suggested a more serious issue with the fuel injectors. Ultimately, a defective injection nozzle was identified and replaced, resolving the problem.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Sounds familiar! I had similar issues with my Nissan Pixo. Starting problems, higher fuel consumption, and stalling. It could well be a clogged or defective fuel injector. When was the last time you changed your fuel filter? A clogged filter can sometimes cause similar symptoms.

Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't changed the fuel filter since I bought the car, so it's probably overdue. But would a clogged filter really cause all those problems at once? And the injector cleaner didn't help at all, which makes me think the injectors themselves are the issue. Is there any easy way to check them?

A clogged filter puts strain on the whole fuel system, so yes, it can cause a range of issues. However, if the cleaner didn't help, and you're still experiencing those symptoms, it does point towards a fuel injector problem. Honestly, checking them properly requires specialist equipment. You could try listening to them with a stethoscope (or a long screwdriver held to your ear) to see if they're clicking, but it's not a reliable test. I'd recommend taking it to a workshop to get them properly diagnosed. I ended up needing a new injector in mine.

Thanks so much for the advice! I suspected it was something serious. I took it to a local garage, and they confirmed it was a defective injection nozzle. The repair cost me 515€, but at least it's running smoothly again now!
