Platina exhaust leak and sensor issue
Summary of the thread
The initial problem involved a 2005 Nissan Platina with a check engine light, reduced engine power, and increased fuel consumption, linked to a faulty exhaust temperature sensor. The issue was suspected to be related to an exhaust leak, as indicated by a hissing sound when the engine was cold. The suggested solution was to inspect the exhaust system for leaks and replace the faulty sensor. The problem was resolved by repairing a crack in the exhaust manifold near the sensor, leading to improved vehicle performance.

Thanks for the quick reply. I haven't smelled anything unusual, but I do hear a slight hissing sound when the engine is cold that goes away as it warms up. Could this mean an exhaust leak near the temperature sensor? How important is it to fix this soon, and what damage could happen if I don't?

That hissing sound is likely an exhaust leak, probably near the sensor. Driving with a leak will hurt your fuel efficiency, damage the catalytic converter, and cause problems with other exhaust parts. I'd suggest taking it to a shop to confirm the leak and replace the sensor.

I appreciate the advice. I took the car to a workshop, and there was a small crack in the exhaust manifold near the temperature sensor. They replaced the sensor and fixed the leak. The final cost was 265€. The car is running smoothly again. Thanks for your help!

A faulty exhaust temperature sensor on your Platina could be the problem, especially with those symptoms. Have you noticed any unusual smells or sounds from the exhaust? A leak could cause the sensor to read wrong, triggering the check engine light and other issues. When was the last exhaust system inspection?
