Presage Bumper Antenna Issue

I'm having a perplexing issue with my 2000 Nissan Presage diesel, with 161120 km on the clock. I think it's the bumper antenna. There's a persistent error in the memory, the locking/unlocking doesn't work right, and the engine needs the key in the ignition to start. I think there might be a problem with the cable or plug connection. Any ideas on how to diagnose this?

Summary of the thread

The issue with the 2000 Nissan Presage involved a malfunctioning bumper antenna, leading to persistent memory errors, faulty locking/unlocking, and the need for the key in the ignition to start the engine. The problem was suspected to be related to the cable or plug connection. A suggestion was made to check the antenna amplifier module for moisture or damage, particularly focusing on the cables and connectors for oxidation. Ultimately, the problem was diagnosed as a defective cable, which was confirmed and resolved by a workshop.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

That sounds a lot like an issue I had with my old 2012 Opel Insignia. The remote locking was intermittent, and I was getting weird error codes related to the central locking. Have you checked the antenna amplifier module itself? Moisture got into mine and messed up the circuit board.

Thanks for the quick reply. I hadn't thought about moisture. Where was the antenna amplifier module in your Opel Insignia? I'm wondering if the Nissan Presage is similar, which might help me find it. Were there any obvious signs of corrosion or damage?

I don't remember exactly where the amplifier module was in the Insignia, but it was near the rear bumper, behind the trim. Since our symptoms are similar, check the cables and connectors for oxidation or damage. But honestly, given the complexity, a good workshop might be the best bet. It sped things up for me.

Thanks for the help. The workshop confirmed it was a defective cable, just like you suggested. It's fixed now, and it cost 95€.
