Prius automatic transmission shifting issues
Summary of the thread
The conversation centers around a 2011 Toyota Prius experiencing automatic transmission shifting issues, with the transmission indicator light on and occasional emergency mode activation. The initial suggestion was that it could be a hydraulic fluid issue. It was recommended to change the transmission fluid, as old or worn-out fluid could cause such problems. Ultimately, replacing the transmission oil resolved the issues.

Thanks for the quick reply. The transmission fluid hasn't been changed. Could low voltage be causing these transmission problems?

Undervoltage could cause electrical problems that affect the transmission's electronic controls, but it's less likely to directly cause the shifting problems you're describing. It sounds like it is probably time for an oil replacement. I'd advise getting it checked at a workshop to confirm what I am saying.

I appreciate your advice and will schedule an appointment with a qualified mechanic for a thorough inspection. The mechanic identified worn-out automatic transmission oil. A replacement of the transmission oil, resolving the issues, cost 240€ Thank you.

Those symptoms definitely point to a transmission issue. Has the transmission fluid ever been changed? A transmission flush and oil replacement could resolve the shifting problems and the error light. How is the general transmission performance otherwise?
